Reserving a company name with ASIC is easy through Cleardocs. You can use Cleardocs to lodge the Form 410 "Reserve a company name" with ASIC electronically. There is no need to lodge anything by hand any more. The Cleardocs fee is $22 (inc GST) and the ASIC fees are $41.

Reserving the company name does not register the company. But you can register a company online through Cleardocs here.

What is included in the Cleardocs Company Name Reservation package?

For the Company Name Reservation package we don't send you any documents. Instead, we reserve the company name at ASIC for you. However, once the company name is reserved:

• you can log in on Cleardocs and see the ASIC letter showing the company name is reserved — you can print the letter if you want to; and
• you can search the name on ASIC's website www.asic.gov.au and see that the company name is reserved.

How long is the company name reserved for?

The company name is reserved for two months.

How do you extend the name reservation?

You can extend the company name reservation for 2 months. However, normally you can do that only once. ASIC occasionally lets people extend the name reservation for a third time — but the reason has to be very good.

Each extension costs the same amount as the reservation, that is: $63, including ASIC fees and GST.

To extend the name reservation through Cleardocs, you go through exactly the same process as for when you first reserved the name.

How long does the ASIC process take to reserve a company name?

Normally, ASIC will reserve the company name within a few minutes.
