Before you start: Small Business bundle

Step 1: Register the company

  • Do the directors have a Directors ID? If not, please click here to apply for a Director ID.
  • Please enter all of the required information for the company.
  • Pay the Cleardocs fee and the ASIC fee.
  • Once ASIC has reviewed and approved the company's application, the company will be registered.
  • Receive the ACN, Certificate of Registration and company set up documents.

Step 2: Company minutes template

  • At the same time you receive your company set up documents, you will receive a minutes template for allotment of shares for future use.

Step 3: Lodging the company's ABN, TFN and GST

  • Look in your Cleardocs account for your pre-filled ABN Registration order.
  • Check your answers before submitting your application.
  • Once you press submit, your application will be lodged with the Australian Business Register and Australian Taxation Office (for TFN & GST applications).

Step 4: Register the business name

  • Check whether you need to register a business name.
  • Look in your Cleardocs account for your pre-filled Business Name Registration order.
  • Check your answers before submitting your application for 1 year's registration.
  • Once you press submit, your application will be lodged with ASIC, and ASIC will send you an invoice for payment of its registration fee.

Step 5: Create your standard employment contract

  • If your business has employees, you can use Cleardocs to set out the terms and conditions of the employment relationship.
  • Look in your Cleardocs account for your pre-filled Standard Employment Contract order.
  • Check your answers before submitting your order.
  • Receive your tailored contract.

Step 6: Notification that ABN, TFN and GST registrations are active

  • If your application is processed successfully, then you'll receive your 11-digit ABN immediately, but it usually takes about 4-6 hours before the ABN is visible on the ABN Lookup. Cleardocs will send you an email once your ABN is active.
  • Once your ABN is registered and active, the ATO will mail you confirmation of your GST registration within 28 days.
  • After GST activation, your GST registration will normally be visible on ABN Lookup within 48 hours of registration. Please note, where you have nominated a future active date for your GST, your GST registration won't be visible on the ABR until 48 hours after that date.
  • Once your TFN application has been processed and approved by the ATO, your entity's TFN confirmation letter will be mailed to your nominated postal address within 14 days.
  • During the registration process, should your application require further verification, Cleardocs will request further information via email. You may provide the requested information through your Cleardocs account.
